Folly Beach is a great place for seafood. Whether you’re looking for a place to go out to eat, or want to prepare it yourself, Folly Beach has plenty of great seafood spots. Whether you like fried shrimp, oysters on the half-shell or a good old-fashioned Lowcountry Boil, these restaurants have what it takes to satisfy your tastebuds.

1. Folly Beach Crab Shack

The Folly Beach Crab Shack, located on Center Street and founded by Ron Hill, has a large established clientele who enjoys their raw bar menu that consists of gigantic peel and eat shrimp, steamed oyster buckets, oysters on the half shell and Alaskan crab leg clusters. Combination platters of grilled and fried favorites, such as shrimp, scallops, oysters and a fresh catch offer variety for individual tastes. Buckets of steamed seafood are made to order, and you’ll find Frogmore Stew and Cluster Shucks taking over many of the tables. Start off your dinner at the Shack the right way with a Crabby Mary to get you in the mood for an amazing meal.

2. Roadside Seafood

Just a few miles outside of Folly on James Island lies an amazing little spot called Roadside Seafood. With some of the best seafood around, this spot requires a place on your next venture out. Open for just over a year, this restaurant has proven to be one of the best fried seafood stops in town. Owner Sam Mendes started off with a food truck that became wildly popular. He then decided to open a brick and mortar location where people could stop by and relax as they dine on exotic fare such as frog legs, shark nuggets, and gator tail in addition to the traditional seafood that they became known for having on their truck. Gigantic tacos filled with calamari, tuna, mahi, fried shrimp or shark nuggets are just some of the tasty bites you can find at Roadside. Grab a bowl of their delicious She Crab Soup, made with cream, jumbo lump crab meat, crab roe, and a little shot of sherry. Healthy salads are available for a lighter meal, but we recommend trying one of the many fried platters on the menu. Order one for the entire table and share!

3. Bowen’s Island Restaurant

Eating at Bowen’s Island Restaurant, a hidden gem featured on television programs like Man Vs Food is located off of Folly Road right outside of Folly Beach. With a beautiful view of the Folly River, the restaurant is known for its laid back atmosphere and great food. Upon entry, guests place their order and find a seat. Huge plates of fried seafood favorites are delivered in a fast-paced atmosphere with servers catering to customers’ stomachs. A huge bar offers some of the finest and coldest brews, and buckets of steamed oysters are picked up from the cookers downstairs. A great recommendation is to order the Big Ol’ Seafood Platter with a side of fried oysters along with a bucket of steamed oysters and share with the table. It’s a lot of food at a good price! They also offer Shrimp and Grits, Lowcountry Boil along with steaming hot hush puppies.
