How many people can a Folly Beach rental sleep?
The city allows two people per bedroom plus two more per rental overnight. A four-bedroom home sleeps 10, a five-bedroom sleeps 12 and a six-bedroom sleeps 14. Listings should reflect that limit.
Rules for big groups
- Parking: rentals licensed since late 2022 generally have one on-site parking space per bedroom. Carpool, and read the parking guide before anyone parks on the street.
- Parties: events at a rental, including rehearsal dinners and receptions, are limited to 25 people total, with no outdoor bands, DJs or speakers and no food trucks.
- Quiet hours: amplified music is restricted after 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and after 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
- Beach weddings: ceremonies on the beach are free, but groups of 25 or more need city approval, and receptions on the beach arenāt allowed.
Tips for planning a group trip
- Book 6 to 12 months ahead for summer; big homes are the first to go.
- Check the sleeping setup: count real beds, not sofa beds, and look for enough bathrooms.
- Ask about an elevator if any guests have trouble with stairs.
- Plan a group outing: a dolphin tour, fishing charter or live music night.
Stocking up for a big group
Folly has one small market on the island, Bertās Market at 202 E. Ashley Ave., which is handy for ice, snacks and forgotten items. For a big grocery run, the closest supermarkets are on Folly Road on James Island, including Harris Teeter at 675 Folly Rd. and Publix at 520 and 1411 Folly Rd. Send one or two people before check-in so the house is stocked when everyone arrives.
Things to do as a group
- Charter a boat. A private dolphin or sunset cruise or a fishing charter keeps the whole group together.
- Paddle together. Guided kayak and paddleboard tours run in the Folly River.
- Walk to the lighthouse view. The path at the east end leads to views of the Morris Island Lighthouse.
- Make a night of it. Catch live music on Center Street or book a table for the group at one of Follyās restaurants.
- Rent the extras. Local outfitters rent golf carts, bikes, beach chairs and umbrellas, so you donāt have to pack them.

- Friday: check in, stock the kitchen and catch the sunset from the deck.
- Saturday: beach in the morning, a boat tour in the afternoon and dinner on Center Street.
