Do you hear that? Cue up the trumpets, saxophones, harmonicas and more, because it’s time for the annual Folly Jazz Festival. This concert serenades our beloved little beach town every November, bringing a dizzying array of incredible jazz musicians for our listening pleasure.

Presented by Jazz on the Edge, LLC, this must-visit event is free to the public. Really! For what you’d pay an arm and a leg to see live somewhere else, you get right here coupled with the ambience of Folly for free.

The Folly Jazz Festival centers around the cultural and educational attributes of jazz in the Lowcountry — from Tom Delaney and Freddie Green born here in Charleston to Gershwin finding inspiration here for the classic “Summertime,”  this distinctive music genre’s history in the South (and our region in particular) proves illustrious.

In homage to that musical heritage, this special festival features a bevy of the best modern jazz musicians you’ll find anywhere.

Past years showcased the jazz stylings of Gino Castillo’s Cuban Connection, Ann Caldwell, The Charleston School of the Arts Big Band, the Bob Albert Trio, Starr Acheson, The Marcus Helander Band, The Festival Big Band, Simon Harding’s Hard Bop Quintet, The Todd Beals Quartet, the Charleston Southern University Jazz Band, Wilton Elder, and Warren Vache.

The festivities kick off on Friday night with an invitation only VIP party, with packed days full of jazz performances on Saturday and Sunday.
