Relax..Slow Down. People of Folly Beach know this to be true and live by the phrase. Folly Beach, known as The Edge of America, has many qualities that make it one of the most relaxing places on Earth. From composer and pianist George Gershwin to local writer Dorothea Frank, artists have been known to flock to the island as a place to master their genre. Our unique community consists of musicians, visual artists, jewelry makers, songwriters, and other performers. Folly Beach also has a strong community of young professionals who travel to Charleston for work and school too. Here are just a few things to know about what makes Folly Beach so vibrant with a diverse culture.

…a historical house much like neighboring Charleston, SC.  Initially, Folly Beach was only inhabited by 9 families, but the beach quickly became known as “The People’s Beach” and became developed, with an Ocean Plaza and a fishing pier. Homes started being built quickly, and the island has become much more than just a visitor’s attraction. Prime real estate has a rich history beginning with the Bohicket tribe that originally lived here. Later, Federal soldiers during the Civil War occupied the island throughout the Battle of Fort Sumter. Much of Folly’s history can still be found in the soil, with the odd arrowhead being found every now and then on the beaches.

You’ll Pay –

According to some estimates, home averages on Folly Beach are $574,800 which makes it one of the more affordable beaches in South Carolina. Compared to Sullivan’s Island ($1,070,800) and Kiawah ($747,600), Folly is much more attainable. Homes may be found in a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from a 2 bedroom cottage with 640 sq ft to larger homes with 4 or more bedrooms with over 2,000 sq ft.
