Taco Boy Folly– Taco Boy Folly is a Mexican-inspired taqueria and bar on 106 E. Ashley Ave. serving the freshest ingredients and most festive drinks around. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, offering indoor and outside dog-friendly patio service, they make fun and celebrating seriously with favorites like Fried Chicken Tacos, Frozen Screwdrivers, Mexican Street Corn, fresh-made flour tortillas, and extensive Mezcal options.
Appetizers such as chips with salsa Roja, guacamole, or queso (pro tip: add chorizo to your queso, it’s worth the additional cost) get things rolling or order the Trio and sample all three dips.
Munch on some Mexican as mentioned above Street Corn, a salty and savory side dressed in chile-lime mayo and cotija cheese. Spice it up a bit with Queso Fries, topped with tajin, grilled jalapenos, and bacon. Or cool down with a Shrimp & Avocado “Tostada,” a crispy corn tortilla stuffed with avocado, salsa cruda, queso fresco, jalapeno lime mayonnaise, and southwest shrimp.
Navigate on to the main course, whereas their name implies, tacos take center stage. Try them in a platter served with rice and beans, or mix and match them independently. Seafood selections include both grilled and fried fish and shrimp options. Other favorites include the Carne Asada with marinated steak, green chile sauce and salsa cruda, and Carnitas Tacos, delicious braised pork layered with cotija cheese, pickled red onion, green chile sauce, and cilantro.
Get creative with a couple of culinary mashups, such as the Southern meets Mexican Buttermilk Fried Chicken Taco filled with seasoned, breaded chicken breast, lightly fried, and topped with citrus carrot and cabbage salad jalapeno lime mayonnaise, chipotle BBQ sauce, and green onions. Korean/Mexican flavors merge in the Kimchi Beef Taco, loaded with marinated steak, Korean BBQ sauce, kimchi, toasted sesame seeds, and fresh cilantro. Tempura Avocado and Crispy Queso are a couple of fantastic veggie taco options.
Quesadillas come in chicken, carne asada, grilled shrimp, and grilled cheese varieties, all filled with Monterrey jack and salsa cruda. The Veggie Quesadilla is packed with corn, black beans, onions, peppers, cremini mushrooms, jalapeno, and cilantro.
Their burritos are jammed with generous portions of verde rice, refried beans, roasted corn, cremini mushrooms, guacamole, pepitas, shredded lettuce, rajas, salsa cruda, and salsa Roja. Add cheese and/or a protein for an upcharge. Skip the tortilla and order one of their rice bowls, like the La Plancha with your choice of chicken or seasoned ground beef (get shrimp or carne asada for a small additional cost) or the Veggie Bowl.
A kids’ menu for children ten and under has more basic offerings, including a kids’ taco and a chicken & Monterrey jack quesadilla.
Their featured dessert is the Tres Leches, Taco Boy’s rendition of this traditional three milk sponge cake soaked in brandy and coated in fresh whipped cream, strawberries, and cinnamon.
Non-alcoholic beverages include sodas, Mexican coke, iced tea, lemonade, topo chico (sparkling mineral water), and frozen Jarritos—an all-natural type of fruit-flavored soda made in Mexico.
Wind down with a beer, wine, or one of Taco Boy’s specialty or frozen cocktails, featuring a broad array of margaritas from the classics to fruity varieties like the Pineapple-Infused Margarita, Tequila reposado infused with fresh pineapple, cinnamon, and vanilla, and blended with house sour mix, or the house specialty Blood Orange Margarita with Tequila Reposado, triple sec, agave nectar, lime juice, and blood orange.
Another unique option is their Michelada, including your choice of Mexican beer served over ice with their house-made sangria mix and tajin rim.
