It’s New Year’s Day, and you undoubtedly had a wild night watching the Flip-Flop Drop and ringing it in Folly-style. So why stop there? Kick your year off right with the “Bill Murray Look-A-Like” Polar Bear Plunge.

Bear with us, because what we’re about to tell you may sound nonsensical: we want you to dress up like your favorite Bill Murray character and, on New Year’s Day, run into ocean.

C’mon, it’s tradition! Starting at 11 a.m., everyone gathers on the beach in front of The Tides Folly Beach. From there, it’s into the icy breakers for you, my friend. If it’s any consolation, the water only feels cold for a minute — numbness sets in pretty quickly.

We kid, we kid. What we would never joke about, though, is just how much fun and Folly spirit this light-hearted event brings out in everyone who participates.

For those rockin’ the greatest Bill Murray get-ups, prizes will be awarded. However, don’t fret if you don’t win a prize, because participating restaurants and bars are waiting to welcome you into the warmth with specials on Bloody Marys and more.

Festivities start at 11 a.m. with the Bill Murray look-alike costume contest, followed by the plunge. Check Visit Folly closer to New Year’s for the exact schedule.
