Save the Light Half Marathon and 5K

Most of us tend to tack on a few extra pounds over the holidays after indulging ourselves in big meals and decadent sweets, so if you’re looking to shed some of that excess weight while benefiting a great cause you should consider registering for the Save the Light Half Marathon and 5K.

Presented by Charleston County Parks and Recreation, the annual event takes place during the first weekend of February and is held at the Folly Beach Pier.

Proceeds from the run go to support the preservation of the historic Morris Island Lighthouse by Save the Light, a grassroots nonprofit organization that formed in 2000 to save the lighthouse, one of South Carolina’s most iconic maritime heritage landmarks, from being lost to sea.

Both races are USATF-certified (USA Track & Field) and start and finish near the Folly Pier along Arctic Avenue. This beautiful course offers oceanfront vistas for much of the race, including a view of the lighthouse.

The half-marathon is a run only event, but the 5K is open to both runners and walkers.

The races begin at 8:30 a.m. and awards and post-race food will be provided.

Strollers are only allowed in the 5K, and those with strollers must start behind the runners/walkers. No pets are allowed on the course.
