The South Carolina
Aquarium
Opened in May
2000 on the Charleston Harbor, the Aquarium
has already been visited by almost two million people.
The permanent exhibit takes visitors on a trip from the Appalachian Watershed to the
Atlantic Ocean, stopping by the mountains, the South Carolina coastal plains and the
coast. This presents and extraordinarily diverse range of creatures and plant life, over
10,000 in total, from river otters to sea turtles, from alligators to sharks!

The largest exhibit in the South Carolina
Aquarium is the Great Ocean Tank which stretches from the 1st to the 3rd floor of the
Aquarium, with over 300 animals living in 335,000 gallons of water.
